Creative Cities українською

Creative Cities is an international project designed by the British Council in order to help raise awareness about the changes that creativity, entrepreneurship, and innovation can bring about in cities. It’s about improving people’s lives. The project covers a wide range of issues including: public spaces, arts and social activities, and policy-making.

What is a creative city? A creative city is a city that recognizes the advantage of investing in entrepreneurship and innovation. We therefore work in partnership with cities and organizations which are actively promoting such drivers. Participating cities will be able to establish a competitive advantage and attract the kind of creative talent that will contribute to sustainable economic growth.

The project – running through 2011 – is being coordinated with the help of partners in private and public organisations and with city administrations in the UK, Poland, the Czech Republic, Hungary, Slovakia, Slovenia, Ukraine, Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Finland, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, and Russia.

FUTURE CITY GAME

Future City Game stimulates new thinking in cities about ways to address the comprehensive changes facing them because of globalisation, migration, climate change, security concerns, and unmet social needs. It also encourages wider participation and facilitates partnerships between organisations and individuals dedicated to making cities better, happier, healthier, and more prosperous, while also creating a dialogue between the public sector and city inhabitants.

Future City Game enables people to find solutions to the long-term challenges facing their cities. Led by a trained games-master, it is a two-day event involving the inhabitants of your city from different backgrounds and representing different disciplines. The aim of the game is to generate the best ideas for improving the quality of life within a specific sphere of a city, the city as a whole, or in response to common challenges facing cities around the world.
 
Players compete in teams by designing, testing, and presenting their ideas to a group of city stakeholders, professionals, and residents as well as to each other. The games-master leads the players through three stages - visioning, testing, and presenting - giving the players a set of tools to help them work together and with stakeholders, to develop ideas, and to present their findings. At the end of the game, all the ideas are presented before local stakeholders. Everyone votes on the best ones and considers how to take these ideas forward in their city once the game has concluded.  
The unique and innovative methodology for the Future City game was developed by the British Council and our UK partners (CLES – Centre for Local Economic Strategies; URBIS – Manchester’s Centre of Urban Life) as a tool to examine, explain, and celebrate city life. Fifty-seven games have been planned and scheduled in participating countries for the period of June 2008 – March 2009.

Think Tank Events

Think Tank Events help to promote an ongoing debate about the role that creativity, entrepreneurship, and innovation play in urban development, while also facilitating local and international partnerships in areas such as the arts and awareness-raising campaigns.

We bring together young urbanites and city partners from across Europe to examine relevant issues related to city development, urban innovation, city planning, and creative economy.
